When we started thinking about traveling in a camper and Europe in particular, we honestly didn't really know that there are regions in Europe where this is still possible and where temperatures are even very pleasant. In these regions, it is very hot in summer, but incredibly pleasant in winter with temperatures of around 20 degrees.
In the sun, it even seemed a lot warmer in Spain in January. Almost summer temperatures like in Germany.
So why not escape the German winter and soak up the sun for a few weeks?
You'll also have your home away from home with you, so let's get started with our 5 tips for great travel destinations in December and January.
Spain - Andalusia
Andalusia is located in the south of Spain and impresses above all with its wonderful little white villages, such as Zuheros, Setenil de las Bodegas, Frigiliana and Grazalema.
It is also definitely worth making a detour to larger cities such as Malaga, Seville or Granada.
On the beaches of Andalusia, you can stand free or look for a pitch at one of the campsites.
The advantage in the winter months is definitely that it is less crowded, despite the pleasant temperatures. In December and January, they range between 15-20 degrees.
As it gets a little cooler at night (between 4-6 degrees), we definitely recommend that you have a heater on board.

Spain - Canary Islands
(Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro)
If you're already down in the south of Spain, it really is worth making a detour to the Canary Islands.
How can you do that with a group of islands?
It's actually not that complicated, because there are regular ferries from mainland Spain to the Canary Islands.
There is also space for a motorhome. You can take the ferry from Huelva or Cadiz. We recommend booking in advance, especially with a motorhome or camper, to make sure you get a space.
You can also easily travel back and forth between the individual islands by ferry.
The Canary Islands have a lot to offer in terms of landscape and are actually quite diverse. On the eastern islands you will find picturesque beaches, while the western part of the island is characterized by mountain landscapes and lots of nature. The thermometer on the Canary Islands usually doesn't go below 20 degrees. Even at night it is still very pleasant with an average temperature of around 15 degrees.

Algarve Portugal
The Algarve is located in the very south of Portugal, so temperatures here are still very mild even in winter.
We have traveled through Portugal ourselves for several months and recommend the Algarve, especially in the winter months.
In our opinion, it is far too crowded in summer.
In terms of landscape, you will find beautiful sandy beaches, but also steep cliffs that make nature something very special.
We can particularly recommend the city of Lagos. It has a wonderful old town with small alleyways and houses in bright white.
Temperatures during the day are between 16-20 degrees. At night it cools down to 8-10 degrees . Warm clothing and heating are also highly recommended here.

Antalya Turkey
While temperatures in the north-east of Turkey can drop below zero, it is still pleasantly warm in the south. Turkey is characterized by flat land, but also lush mountains.
Would you rather experience Turkish culture in the big city of Antalya or linger on one of the wonderful beaches? Turkey definitely has both on offer.
With temperatures between 16-20 degrees during the day and 8-10 degrees at night , it's great to stay in a camper van or motorhome.

Morocco
Morocco is one of the African countries and can be reached from mainland Spain within 1.5-2 hours.
It is quite hot in Morocco in the summer months. In winter, however, it is definitely fun to experience Morocco's culture at a pleasant 20-25 degrees. Whether it's a visit to a medina, a Turkish bath in a hamam or a crystal-clear starry sky in the desert. There is certainly something for everyone.
Most of Morocco's roads are also great for traveling by camper or motorhome. At night, the temperatures drop to around 12-15 degrees, which I find to be a very pleasant temperature for sleeping

Finally, we can tell you from our own experience that a trip to one of these countries in winter is definitely worthwhile. It's not just the temperatures that are incredibly pleasant. The rays of sunshine are good if you've just come from cold and dark Germany and it's not as crowded as in the summer months. As it sometimes rains in winter, in contrast to summer, everything is also less dry.
In spring it slowly becomes wonderfully green. What could be better than sitting by the sea in the evening and making a campfire? I wish you lots of fun on your trip.
